Paintings in Oils by Roos Schuring.
Plein air painting, Images & Videos, Enjoy!
The further out the more the values come together.
(Or) To say in other words, 'the lesser' the contrasts get. Whether it's water vapour creating hazy greyish far away objects, dunes, mountains, city buildings, a horizon and the sky above it, it's a rule that only breaks when there are specific light effects from the sun for example.
I think I'll spend the most time on getting this value comparison right: making the sky not too light, the ocean horizon not too dark, and have them come very near value wise, so the atmosphere can work, the vastness can be felt and the colors are still sunny enough, not too saturated, not too dull.
A greenish horizon line works wonders: test it out!

And this is where small phone lenses go wrong: portraying 'wrong' contrasts. (As you see here below: look at the horizon: what a difference compared to the actual painting.)
I photograph all paintings with a bigger camera to fix this. And then still, it's always 95% right, 5% off.
