Paintings in Oils by Roos Schuring.
Plein air painting, Images & Videos, Enjoy!
After a long hiatus I was determined to paint the July Super Moon.
People were saying that it would rise a little before 9 but no, it was around 11 PM. I think we got out later and it was already above the horizon, rising through hazy clouds.
The effect that I can still see in my mind was a clear vertical light effect. Up and down.
We found a spot with a good view. Though it was a tad stressful, because IT IS NIGHT it was so great to be there, making a moment last!
I can recommend all artists to give these things a go. You’ll feel so alive when you do. Go out, plant the easel, take a led-light of any kind to see tubes from tubes, and just give it a try. Because of the dark it’s an excellent was to pay even more attention to values than you can during daylight. BUT: it will be hard to see colors. Even WITH a led.
It keeps to be a surprise to yourself, looking at it in the morning, in daylight. Here I ended up with mostly earthy colors. I like it. The next day we went again. (next post)

This July super moon is called 'Buck Moon'. I googled for some info and found this
“This energy symbolizes our own patterns of shedding past layers of ourselves to become a new version of ourselves, It’s a time to not only step into your spiritual purpose, but also part ways with the practices, thought patterns, and habits that keep you from actualizing your full manifestations. Bravely taking steps toward our hopes and releasing anything that’s standing in the way of our unique personal development is what the spiritual meaning of the Buck Moon is all about."
It would have been good when I would have premixed some colors indoors.
Because color choices, big choices are easier set in good light.
Of course, you do not know beforehand what you'll find outdoors, but that's why it's good to return the next day as well, and the next, and the next. Just to experiment with different choices.
I have a vlog episode about painting the sunrise here
