Peak of Summer

'Summer Summum'

Almost a 'French vibe', this was a warm day on a new beach (yes in Holland), and the one thing that struck me being there was the pinkish light coloring everything warm and blues to purples. The turquoise elements stood out so strongly!
These are the elements that then decide the (start and outcome of the) painting. Of course, whether the outcome reflects the idea or start, that's depending on a lot if things, but I think I captured it. The moment!

Sand Color - Light or Dark?

Sand can have many colors, and in a painting as well. It's dependent on your chosen value range. For example, for this painting here I chose saturated light colors for ocen and sky, and these so light need lighter sand. It's all in relation(ship).

Yes, sometimes you can "experiment" or "get away with" really dark sand, sometimes you will "lighten it up" for an extra sunny effect, or to pull the light near. Sand itself has lights and shadows, sand can reflect the sky, there's dry sand, wet sand, far away sand, near footsteps in sand, etc. All can be painted, and/ or simplified to "fit" the larger "whole". Experimentation in lightening and in darkening sand is recommended. It will teach you a lot.

Not to say there are fixed ways, and rules 😀😀😀 You often ask me for 'fixed rules' even. And I will always say "there are no rules". Beginners can start just by "painting what you SEE". Mix what you see. And slowly, in getting more confident, you'll feel you can experiment more, letting more RISK in. You'll find there might be not so much risk after all: you can scrape, replace, paint it again, you can mix, test, evaluate. The only risk might be - never taking any risk😀

Wins and losses are the two parts of the same coin. You'll have to sometimes screw up, to sometimes "win big", the flow of doing needs the analytical counter part. Experimentation and Findings belong together. Paint more often!

Your Seascapes will get that spark of life in, when you can paint them there: standing on the beach.

Even if you don't live near a beach, you can book a holiday to a place near the ocean and start painting there.
