Painting a Big Seascape

Painting a big seascape on a very dull and overcast day.

At the scene I really thought nothing, just painting in doubt. Later on, I knew I had done something wonderful here. You just never know, do you :)

That's also the magic of plein air. I think you can mess up a painting more quickly in your studio, going on and on. Because Plein air has a watch. A time limitation. A passing moment. Moving light.

A frequent question is if I finish my paintings indoors. For 99.5% not, thank God. Because it's a hassle. It's difficult! To finish at the scene I will need the mirror. I've written about it before here, so I won't for now. But I will say the longer you paint, hopefully, the lesser outdoor paintings need help indoors :) Happy Painting!

(Never forget that even 'the great' painters create stuff that they toss out. Nobody creates 100% good paintings 100% of the time. Never forget.

It's about improvement. And that's the same for Everybody. Beginner or Professional. This urge will never stop.)
