Happy New 2024!

A Special Nocturne.

I went out to paint around 7 PM (Dec. 31), yes there were already a few small fireworks exploding on the horizon, not like what happens at 10 PM, 11-12. Of course, the Dutch are somewhat 'infamous' for their fireworks craziness then.
I went home with a finished piece, though I did go into it again on Jan 1, just to add from the memories, the bigger fireworks.

I think the most difficult thing is to 'weave' the sky behind the fireworks, and in between. You can see that the sky color has almost all colors in it. A purple with yellows, greens, blues.

The windmill has been lit with lights since Christmas and I avoided to paint it because of that. But, I painted it. The winds were very heavy, I did stand in mud, it started to rain with hale at the end. I felt great.
If there is one thing I want to convey to the ones reading: "GO OUT". It is the best feeling. The 'being there with a brush in hands'.

No party could give the same satisfaction.

And of course, there are 366 painting days (this year!), you won't always have 'difficulties' like the weather, or with the subject, and you'll see how WITH TIME things get more smooth. Yes, my first years outdoors delivered paintings, but I wasn't really proud, getting 'what you see' onto the canvas, it takes but TIME and practice. Every time I'm out, I see it as practice. And we always learn.

I worked with a light on batteries (to see the tubes) and stood beside a street light.

Difficult, painting a lit windmill :)
